About the Owner
David Durenberger — Founder & Conservation Leader

David Durenberger began his journey in 2014 when he launched Durenberger Lawn and Landscape. He spent most of his early years working throughout Excelsior, Minnesota, going door-to-door and building a reputation for quality craftsmanship through services like mulch installation, retaining walls, paver patios, and full outdoor transformations. What started with a borrowed trailer and a strong work ethic quickly grew into a successful business he continued to expand throughout college.
While studying at St. John's University in Collegeville, David joined the E-Scholars entrepreneurship program, where he refined his vision and discovered a path that combined both sides of his life: his love for the outdoors and his passion for transforming customers' properties. During this time, David also spent three months in Bozeman, Montana, working with the Montana Conservation Corps. That role brought him deep into the backcountry of Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park, where he rebuilt and restored miles of remote trail systems.
Working directly alongside the heads of the National Park Service trail crews, David received hands-on training in the standards, techniques, and conservation practices required to maintain national-level trail systems. From erosion control and tread shaping to habitat protection and sustainable routing, he learned what it takes to build trails that last — and how thoughtful land management impacts wildlife, visitors, and the long-term health of the landscape. This experience strengthened his belief that private landowners deserve the same level of care, stewardship, and expertise found in our national parks.
These combined experiences ultimately led David to create Legacy Land Managers.
