Hillside Stabilization + Creating Usable Space
Hillside stabilization reduces erosion and runoff, protecting buildings, infrastructure, and adjacent areas. The newly stabilized area creates usable, accessible space that expands site capacity without the need for additional land acquisition.

Project Overview
This project focuses on stabilizing an existing hillside to protect the integrity of the site and unlock usable outdoor space. The work addresses erosion, soil movement, and water management to reduce long-term structural and environmental risk. Removing buckthorn and overcrowded understory trees beneath the canopy is essential for improving both the health and usability of a property. Dense invasive growth blocks sunlight, restricts native plant regeneration, and creates tangled areas that limit access and visibility. Through engineered stabilization, grading, and drainage improvements, the project converts steep, unstable terrain into safe, functional land that supports ongoing and future use of the property.
Project Outcomes
The project secures the hillside and reduces erosion and runoff, protecting buildings, infrastructure, and adjacent areas. It lowers future maintenance and repair costs by addressing underlying stability issues. The newly stabilized area creates usable, accessible space that expands site capacity without the need for additional land acquisition. By selectively clearing this understory and introducing low-growing native ground cover, the forest floor becomes more stable, resilient, and easy to maintain while still protecting soil and retaining moisture. This thoughtful approach enhances wildlife movement, improves forest health, and opens up the land for outdoor recreation such as this fire pit, which offers a more functional landscape without compromising its natural character. Overall, the project strengthens safety, improves site functionality, and increases the long-term value and resilience of the property.
